LeBron James has declared what he calls his “final decision” regarding his next NBA team.
Following his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers, James revealed on Friday that he has selected the Philadelphia 76ers as his new team.
At the age of 41, James is set to begin his 24th season in the NBA, extending his record. This marks the fourth franchise he will represent throughout his illustrious career, having previously secured championships with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Lakers.
James has agreed to a two-year contract worth $8 million, which includes a player option, as confirmed by Klutch Sports Group CEO Rich Paul to ESPN’s Shams Charania. USdaily Sports has verified the deal’s specifics.
Through several social media updates, James articulated his choice of team as he aims to capture a fifth NBA championship.
“I thought I was finished when the last season concluded,” James mentioned in multiple posts on X. “I needed time to genuinely contemplate my future, but I assumed I had played my final game. I was truthful when I stated at that last press conference that I needed to reflect and determine if I still have a passion for this game.”

After eight years filled with ups and downs, James departed from the Lakers in June. His time there started with an NBA title during his second year, achieved in the Covid-19 bubble. Since that moment, the four-time NBA MVP has set several records while playing for the Lakers, including overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time leading scorer in the league.
However, James couldn’t elevate the Lakers back to championship status after the 2020 season, even after the acquisition of Luka Dončić in a major trade in 2025. The Lakers were eliminated in the second round by the Oklahoma City Thunder this past season.
