In Scotland, firefighters are engaged in efforts to put out a wildfire on Arthur’s Seat, a renowned hill located near the heart of Edinburgh.
The fire was first reported on Sunday evening, as per a statement from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), which was released late on Monday morning.
“Operations Control dispatched six fire engines along with specialized teams to the location where teams are actively combating the flames affecting a grassy area,” SFRS Area Commander David Dourley stated.
“Our teams are still present this morning after tirelessly battling the fire throughout the night. Operations will persist today until the blaze is completely under control,” he mentioned.
“There have been no reported injuries,” Dourley added.
Arthur’s Seat is a notable dormant volcano that rises to 251 meters (823 feet) above sea level, as stated by the Scottish tourism board, providing hikers with panoramic views of Edinburgh.
The site is also home to a significant fort that dates back approximately 2,000 years, along with St. Anthony’s Chapel, a charming ruin from the 15th century, according to the tourism board.
It is located within Holyrood Park, adjacent to the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which serves as King Charles’ official residence in Edinburgh.
In recent years, firefighters have responded to several fires at Arthur’s Seat, addressing incidents in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2025.
Numerous firefighters have also been combating a fire in the Cairngorms National Park located in the Scottish Highlands for the past five days, as mentioned in a separate statement from the SFRS.
A “very high risk” wildfire warning has been issued for the Central Highlands, Southern, and Eastern Scotland until Monday, the service stated.
