Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin is initiating an inquiry to determine if Jeffrey Epstein operated as an undisclosed foreign agent for several nations, seeking documentation from the Trump administration concerning the extent of the deceased convicted sex offender’s international connections.
Within the House, which is under Republican control, Raskin’s requests directed at the Department of Justice, Department of State, and the intelligence agencies may not receive a response. However, his role as the lead Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee foreshadows how Democrats might approach investigations if they regain the House majority in the upcoming Congress, granting them authority over committees that possess subpoena powers.
In a recent letter, Raskin cites documents made public by the Department of Justice and the House Oversight Committee, stating he has discovered “significant evidence” indicating that Epstein “worked to promote the interests” of both the Saudi Arabian and Kuwaiti governments, provided advice to the Russian administration, and served as a consultant for a former prime minister of Israel. Raskin expresses concerns regarding the security threats posed by Epstein’s international connections, particularly since he was never registered as a foreign agent.
“Our review of the evidence currently accessible has already uncovered troubling signs of Mr. Epstein’s involvement on behalf of foreign nations,” Raskin stated.

Raskin suspects that additional information regarding Epstein’s foreign relationships may be contained within the roughly 2.5 million documents that the Justice Department has yet to disclose concerning Epstein. He is requesting any documentation pertinent to Epstein’s dealings with foreign officials. Furthermore, Raskin is urging the DOJ to provide a written reply addressing whether any investigation has ever been conducted into Epstein’s potential role as a foreign agent.
“In spite of having numerous, well-documented personal and professional connections with officials from foreign governments, Mr. Epstein never registered as a foreign agent,” Raskin noted.
