Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding was the spectacle you expected it to be

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, seen here in 2025 after the AFC Championship, have lived out much of their romance in the public eye.

Ultimately, the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce was revealed in a manner reminiscent of her music videos: Billboards surrounding Madison Square Garden illuminated in purple with the message “JUST&T MARRIED,” proclaiming the news to pedestrians in Midtown Manhattan and audiences worldwide.

Just a few blocks away, the Empire State Building shone in blue to celebrate the occasion, a nod to the traditional wedding rhyme. Shortly thereafter, a downpour began.

This significant event heralds a new chapter for the pair, whose love story unfolded publicly, culminating in a wedding enveloped in secrecy, reportedly enforced by stringent non-disclosure agreements and security measures akin to those at airports.

In the lead-up to the grand event, which commenced Thursday evening with a rehearsal gathering for roughly 100 guests, very few confirmed their invitations, and even fewer acknowledged their attendance.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, seen here in 2025 after the AFC Championship, have lived out much of their romance in the public eye.

Observing the arrivals at Madison Square Garden, a venue where Swift has performed eight times throughout her 20-year career, felt like a blend of various major events such as the Grammys, Oscars, and ESPY Awards. Celebrities like Ed Sheeran and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell were among those spotted, along with several players from the Kansas City Chiefs, many of whom were seen entering blacked-out Sprinter vans from an upscale hotel that media and fans had gathered outside.

Social media was inundated with images and videos of guests making their way to MSG. “Law & Order: SVU” actress Mariska Hargitay, whose character inspired one of Swift’s cat names, rolled down her window to greet fans.

This all unfolded during a scorching heatwave, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits, creating a challenging situation for those outside without invitations.

Little we know, much we don’t

So – what truly transpired inside MSG that night?

Instead of having a conventional bridal party, Swift’s brother Austin took on the role of her “man of honor,” while Kelce’s brother Jason served as the “best man,” as stated in an email from Swift’s spokesperson, which accompanied the billboard announcements.

Both the bride and groom donned custom outfits from Christian Dior, crafted by Jonathan Anderson, celebrated for his intricate and playful designs.

Their friend Adam Sandler, who featured Kelce in “Happy Gilmore 2” last year, officiated the ceremony.

“The ceremony was wonderful and emotional. Adam Sandler was both funny and heartfelt. The vows were everything you could wish for – authentic, open, serious, and playful, filled with deep affection,” remarked “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos, who attended with his co-anchors Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan, in a conversation with ABC News post-wedding.

Roberts and Stephanopoulos mentioned that the couple crafted their own vows in “little books.”

A photo from Rob and Joann Jordan's Instagram account offers the first look inside Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding.

An image shared by personal trainer Rob Jordan and his spouse Joann on their Instagram accounts on Saturday provided a first look inside the wedding, which Stephanopoulos referred to as “a garden inside the Garden.” The couple was seen holding hands as they ascended a brightly colored carpeted staircase leading to what appeared to be the wedding entrance. Joann Jordan informed USdaily that their phones were confiscated upon reaching the top of the staircase for check-in.

The noticeable orange shade was linked to a large marketing effort and fan hypotheses regarding Swift’s twelfth studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” released in October. “It feels like kind of energetically how my life has felt,” she remarked about the album’s orange symbolism.

Stevie Nicks was among the performers that evening, Roberts confirmed. Page Six was the first to report Nicks’ anticipated performance. In terms of the performances, Jay Marciano, CEO of live event company AEG Presents, told Reuters that there were “big ones.” The standout? “Too many. All of them,” he mentioned.

What did attendees take home? Two posts on Instagram from singer-songwriter Maren Morris and Ana Demmer, who is now engaged to Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey, featured what could be a wedding favor: a handkerchief embroidered with “T&T,” the date, and “New York City,” accompanied by the “Blank Space” lyrics, “So it’s gonna be forever …”

The robust guest list

The guest list, comprising 1,000 individuals, was both impressive and occasionally perplexing.

Hollywood was well represented, featuring names like Steven Spielberg, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Dakota Johnson, Eric Stonestreet, and Hugh Grant. Kansas City native and Chiefs supporter Jason Sudeikis was present, along with self-identified Swiftie Nikki Glaser. Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Graham Norton, Jimmy Fallon, and Zoe Kravitz were also seen arriving. Swift’s close friend Selena Gomez shared a photo on her Instagram, showcasing her in a fitted, beaded golden gown — the same shade Swift wore during Gomez’s wedding last September.

Sports figures were also in attendance, including New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and sportscaster Erin Andrews.

The music industry was heavily represented as well, with artists such as Gwen Stefani, Fergie, the Chainsmokers, Miranda Lambert, Camila Cabello, Benson Boone, and many others.

Writer and director Lena Dunham, a longtime friend of Swift, was seen arriving at the venue. Swift had previously fulfilled the role of bridesmaid at Dunham’s 2021 wedding to Luis Felber. Supermodel Karlie Kloss was also there, seemingly dispelling any rumors of a falling out between her and Swift.

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” author Jenny Han and celebrity chef Alison Roman, a known favorite of Swift’s, were also among the invitees, alongside Jessica Alba and Chris Rock.

“It’s hard to believe that such a vast venue and a wedding with so many stars could feel so personal and intimate,” Stephanopoulos noted.

“Because they included their neighbors and high school friends – it resembled any wedding you might attend,” Roberts added.

An event permit indicated the reception was scheduled to last until 2 a.m., yet some guests were seen leaving shortly before 10 p.m. Spielberg, Alba, Strahan, Tom Brady, and Swift collaborator Max Martin, among others, were spotted departing in SUVs prior to midnight.

Jason Sudeikis, a Kansas City Chiefs fan, was among the attendees at the Swift-Kelce wedding.

The search for easter eggs continues

As for what transpired inside or the ambiance, there are some hints.

“They wept, laughed, danced, embraced, and kissed,” Taylor Swift’s aunt, Robin Gentry, relayed to Reuters while departing on Friday night.

Earlier in the week, movements around the venue were meticulously monitored for any clues about how Swift and her team would transform the typically dull arena into a wedding venue suitable for a musical icon.

Crews were observed transporting greenery and flowers, along with gnarled tree branches and lush foliage. Boxes labeled “game tent” and “STAIRS” were also noted. Earlier this week, TMZ released a video seemingly showing large white staircase banisters being lifted into the venue.

The full extent of the event remains unclear, but more insights will likely emerge from Swift and Kelce at their discretion. Signs were displayed at various entrances of MSG, informing attendees that filming was taking place. Whether the footage will ever be publicly shared remains uncertain.

It’s been a long time coming

Swift’s music has formed the backdrop to a generation’s experiences of heartbreak and coming-of-age moments.

For her fans, the moment was a reason to celebrate. Enthusiasts gathered behind barriers, trying to get as close as possible to MSG in anticipation of the festivities on Friday.

Alison Hagen, a 24-year-old actress who offers Taylor Swift-themed walking tours in the city, expressed that Swift’s relationship with Kelce has sparked “a very hopeful time for all of us Taylor Swift fans.”

When Swift revealed her engagement through a shared Instagram post with Kelce last fall, Hagen found herself stopping in the streets of New York City, feeling compelled to share the news with anyone who would listen.

“I don’t know her personally, but I feel genuinely happy for her,” she expressed. “She appears to be truly content.”

Fans as far away as Malaysia and Thailand celebrated the singer’s special day by hosting their own parties, reminiscent of bachelorette festivities in honor of Swift’s wedding.
